Distribution Centers: Before the Last Mile

McCoy’s fleet of green-and-yellow delivery trucks are a pretty common site on the back roads and highways of Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. Fact is, we take a lot of pride in our delivery service that brings our customers just what they need directly to their jobsite, often the very same day it’s ordered. That last mile of your purchase’s journey is critical, but our state-of-the-art process begins with our crack distribution team working behind the scenes—and behind the wheel.

Our three distribution centers in Burnet, Pharr, and Midland, Texas are responsible for receiving, organizing, and moving materials across three states to get our stores—and ultimately our customers—what they need, when they need it. This includes a wide array of building materials from framing and decking lumber, manufactured wood products, siding, and insulation to roofing, rebar, and fencing among others.

The biggest of these centers is located in Burnet, TX. This sprawling, 37-acre facility is served by an industry-leading, 15-car rail spur that connects with the Union Pacific, BNSF, and Canadian National Railway rail lines, giving McCoy’s direct access to an international transportation network. Our team of 80+ distribution professionals unloads dozens of rail cars each week and sorts the material by type. Then, we dispatch upwards of 70 individual runs to restock approximately 60 of our stores weekly. That’s not counting the hundreds of trucks and delivery experts dispatched from our stores to our customer’s jobsites each day.

Our stores can expect a delivery from the distribution center within 72 hours of placing an order—even if it’s a custom item. One of the many reasons this is possible is that all LVL engineered wood products are cut to size at our distribution center and packaged up as individual orders.

Our distribution centers in Midland and Pharr, although smaller, operate out of our stores there. They receive and warehouse additional materials for neighboring stores and deliver direct to customers with the same efficiency and service you expect from McCoy’s. We’re not letting the grass grow, either. We’re always thinking about new ways we can increase our efficiency, whether that’s purchasing a new LVL cutting saw, or designing a turn lane into our facility to help move our trucks in and out without disrupting traffic. Quickly getting you quality building supplies, whether they came from a plant just down the road or a forest on the other side of the world, is our priority.
